At The FutureHopeUK, one of our cardinal Pillars is the advancement of Modern Agriculture. We endeavor to make the Agriculture healthier and more sustainable through innovation. Our goal is to improve the wealth and dignity in Farming and at the same time increase the food security for the populace and create business opportunities for teeming youths.
We kicked off with a summit and exhibition on Modern Agriculture in Osun State, Nigeria. ‘A Look Ahead of Future’ in Agriculture was a charity event put on by The FutureHope UK in collaboration with AFAN (Osun State Chapter), Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Youth engagement and Ministry of Commence and Industry Osun State to promote Modern Agriculture to ensure food security by promoting the new technologies to advance productivity on the farm and across the food system, provide job opportunities to the teeming Nigerian youths and encouraging entrepreneurship practices making our youths become employers of labour. The event took place at AGRRIK MATAS, along Aisu-Ede Road, Aisu-Ede, Osun State. A Look Ahead of Future in Agriculture took place on August 20, 2016, started at 11:30am and lasted well into the early evening. The venue for this event was graciously donated to us by AGRRIK MATAS and Ministry Of Agriculture Osun State.
The purpose for the event was to address the challenges/gaps that Osun State Farmers are facing to improve the wealth and dignity in Farming and to encourage the teeming Nigerian youths to aspire to become leaders in Agricultural business with main focus on meaningful innovation. Investing in innovation is part of investing in development.
The turn out was excellent (over 500). Event was covered by NTA (Ife) and Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC). It was an event with difference in that over 500 people attended the summit and exhibition, and over 250 participants registered for entrepreneurship training in different areas of agriculture. The event was graced by Osun state governor’s representative Dr. Bukola Aluko (Coordinating Director Ministry of Agriculture) and all other directors from Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Youth engagement and Ministry of Commence and Industry Osun State, All Farmers Association of Nigeria’s president, executives and members (Osun State Chapter), as well as serving NYSC corp members in Osun State. Mojisola Adeoye also known as Arikson Promotion co cordinated the event under the Presidency of Ms. Treasure Josiah and Engr. Dotun Ijibadejo the Coordinating Director (Africa).
The powerful sensitisation from facilitators was centred on youth empowerment, policy and regulatory updates on Agriculture, crop production, animal husbandry (livestock, piggery, fisheries, etc), food processing, farm record, marketing (off takers), farm care were the main focus of the event. These were carefully put together enabling them to be inspired in modern farming.
The event costs were covered by the board of directors of The FutureHopeUK, so the sponsorship group did not have to pursue more sponsorship.
